Chapter . Still More Iraq
President Bush claimed the Iraq war was not going as well as it could. His solution: more troops, of course (21,500 more to be exact). The nationwide response was overwhelmingly negative, and the President’s approval ratings dropped to an all-time low with the four year anniversary of the war. Although the troop surge might not have solved Bush’s Iraq quagmire, it certainly solved cartoonists’ problem of how to make fun of the President next. No current political cartoonist’s oeuvre is lacking in Iraq cartoons, but there was a definite surge this year.
