Chapter . Violence In Mexico
This was a terrible year for Mexico as violence swept across the country. After Mexican President Felipe Calderon sent thousands of soldiers and federal police to battle the drug cartels throughout the country and the drug gangs retaliated, storming bars, pool halls, and malls in Tijuana and opened fire on innocent victims. Shootouts were commonplace as corrupt police departments were replaced with soldiers. Federal agents were killed in droves and their mutilated bodies were left in public places as warnings to others. Death, violence and suffering were everywhere in Mexico.
