I had an excellent conversation last week with two friends in the executive search business. We covered a wide range of interesting subjects, but one topic we discussed stayed at the front of my mind. The topic was cybersecurity and the chief information officer (CIO).

Until relatively recently, the CIO could safely delegate cybersecurity responsibilities to a variety of other corporate executives, including the CISO (chief information security officer) and the CRO (chief risk officer). In some organizations, cybersecurity was handled by the CFO. Many CIOs simply delegated cybersecurity oversight to members of the IT staff.
