In the UK, at the time of writing, the regulation of business and corporate practices is the responsibility of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS). Compliance is enforced through the courts. Historically, regulation has been vested in various predecessors of BIS, principally the Department of Trade (DoT) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and their respective initials can be found in many documents and references.
