That web pages look as good as they do is a minor miracle (comparatively speaking, of course!). Since the move away from table-based layouts to pure CSS, developers have often had to create complex page structures using simple tools such as float, margin, and position—tools that perhaps were not even intended for that purpose when they were created. As CSS matures and browsers get more powerful, a whole new range of alternative toolsets have been proposed, and over the next three chapters, I’ll discuss each of these in turn.
