BEM for Plate Bending Analysis

Abstract

This chapter presents the direct BEM for the static analysis of thin plates under bending. First, the essential elements of the thin plate theory and the derivation of the pertinent equations are presented. Then, the BEM is formulated in terms of the transverse displacement of the middle surface. The basic ingredients of the direct BEM for plates, namely, the Rayleigh-Green identity, the fundamental solution of the biharmonic equation, the integral representation of the deflection, and the boundary integral equations are derived and discussed in detail. Emphasis is given on the numerical implementation of the method. A computer program is developed in the FORTRAN language for the complete analysis ...
