BEM for Other Plate Problems

Abstract

This Chapter presents the BEM for the analysis of complex plate problems appearing in practical engineering analysis. First the bending of plates under combined action of membrane forces with application to buckling of plates is discussed. Then plates resting on any type of elastic foundation are analyzed. The large deflections of plates and their postbuckling response follow. Plates with variable thickness are discussed with application to plate thickness optimization for maximizing the plate stiffness or buckling load. Thick plates are also discussed. The Chapter ends with the treatment thin and thick anisotropic plates. All these problems are described by single fourth order partial differential ...
