BEM for Large Deflection Analysis of Membranes

Abstract

This chapter presents the BEM for the static and dynamic analysis of flat elastic and viscoelastic membranes undergoing large deflections. First, the nonlinear partial differential equations governing the response of the membrane are derived in terms of the three displacements together with the associated boundary conditions using the energy method. The resulting boundary value problem is solved by the BEM in conjunction with the principle of the analog equation. Then the initial boundary value problem for the dynamic problem of the membrane is formulated and the BEM solution procedure is developed. Finally, the dynamic problem for viscoelastic membranes described with multi-term ...
