Chapter 11 The truth comes out
‘No problem,’ said Jasper at once, and Ben laughed when he saw the uniform. ‘Pull up a pew and take a shot of tequila.’
Ben sat down but said no to the tequila — it was one drink that even the smell of made him sick.
Jasper quickly filled him in on the truth or dare game, and nominated Josie for the next turn. She picked truth, and turned to Russ for the question.
‘Who has been the greatest love of your life?’ asked Russ. Karen kicked his ankle hard, not quite believing that Russ would ask such a question of Josie in front of Brad.
‘Oh, that’s easy,’ said Josie. ‘It’s definitely myself,’ she laughed, and so did everyone else. Nicely handled, thought Karen.
Everyone was relaxed and enjoying themselves, despite the differences in how they lived their lives. ‘My turn,’ squealed Jayne, and asked Brad to choose truth or dare.
‘Dare.’ He didn’t want to expose himself by revealing any hard truths.
Jayne opened her purse and pulled out what looked like a hand-rolled cigarette. ‘I dare you to take a drag on this.’
Jasper hooted with glee as he realised that Jayne had a joint. ‘It’s my ex-husband’s,’ she quickly explained. He had left it over 18 months ago, and on impulse Jayne had packed it into her bag for the reunion. She had not smoked in years, but thought Jasper might find it fun. Now she was handing it to billionaire Brad Malone like it was the most natural thing in the world.
