The sun was shining, and the weather in the month of May was promising a good summer. It was the time of year when cricket starts to come back on the wireless. The train set was absorbing and growing. Gen and Rory, a bit of a handful when together, were still delightful in their way. I picked up a brace of long-range water pistols for them from the car boot sale, to encourage in them a healthy interest in boyish things like guns, and subvert completely Rory’s Mum’s ineffectual attempts to introduce political correctness.
