CHAPTER 5: RIGHTS OF CONSUMERS AND OBLIGATIONS OF THE BUSINESS

The CPRA outlines several requirements that apply to a “business.” Collectively, this is the operational impact of the CPRA. Although these are often listed as consumer rights, they also impose obligations on a business to allow consumers to exercise those rights.

There are five consumer rights:

1.Right to know and be informed – a right to know what data is being collected, shared, and used, at or before the time of collection.94

2.Right of access – a right to have the business disclose various pieces of information related to the data processing.95

3.Right to deletion – a right to request that the business delete certain personal information about the consumer.96
