CHAPTER 11
Think About Yourself Differently
THE COMBINATION OF PHYSICAL CHALLENGE, ALONE TIME, AND MEETING many new people makes the Camino a unique opportunity for self-examination. “Texas” Tim, a car dealer from the USA, described the introspective nature of his Camino this way: “This Camino mirrors my life. The first portion was a race. The middle froze me. The last showed me who I am, or who I am becoming. I have spent forty-five years getting here. I worked, pushed, and plowed forward. I gave time to my kids on my terms. I languished for approval from people. I bought in and woke up one morning a forty-four-year-old miserable fat man. The Camino served as a reflecting pool for me.”
