FOR A VERY BRIEF PERIOD IN 2019, due to a clerical error at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Kingdom of Wakanda was a free trade partner of the United States.1 Wakanda is the fictional East African homeland of Marvel Comics superhero Black Panther, aka T’Challa. As depicted in the 2018 blockbuster movie Black Panther, starring the late Chadwick Boseman, Wakanda was a vibrant kingdom with an abundance of wealth, advanced technology, natural resources, and powerful, smart Black leaders.
