The popular image of the artist or writer is still one of solitary struggle in the proverbial garret, wrestling alone with the muse, in a herculean effort to create great work. It is true; to accomplish creative work we do need alone time to write, to paint, to draw, to dream.

However, artists and creatives in many disciplines benefit tremendously from being a part of an engaged community. Even if this “community” consists of just one other person who is also doing the work and who understands and supports our struggles, it encourages us to persevere through disappointments and gives us accountability to finish what we start.
