It’s a common misconception. “Soldiers don’t need to think, just do.” People have a view of the military as all-action, gung-ho, do-or-die, would-be heroes at all costs. That view, of course, comes from people who have not served in the forces.

My view, as someone who comes from inside the forces, is quite different and better informed. I know that a commando, in particular, would not succeed without the ability to think quickly, cannily and flexibly. These are also essential qualities to succeed in business.
