In the 20-plus years I’ve been working with volunteers, one thing has never changed: people always seem to have a “love them or hate them” relationship with volunteers who serve in leadership positions as board members. Much of it has to do with how people naturally respond to others perceived as “in charge” combined with lots of confusion around roles and responsibilities. Just what does “in charge” mean, anyway?
