Glossary
1099 form Similar to a W-2 but meant to report various types of income other than wages, salaries, and tips. If your company issues you a W-2, it cannot also issue a 1099. A 1099 is tendered for an independent contractor, nonemployee, or other types of vendors.
1099-B A close cousin of the regular 1099, the 1099-B is an electronic file sent to the IRS (and a hard copy sent to the taxpayer) that indicates total trade dollars received during the tax year. From an accounting perspective, trade dollars are equal to cash dollars and are accounted for in the same manner.
