Glossary

A-frame tent A simple and often inexpensive A-shaped tent with a center ridge pole and limited interior space due to sloping walls and a peaked ceiling.

anaphylactic shock A rapid and dangerous allergic reaction to a substance, usually insect venom or food, that causes immediate swelling of body tissues (including the throat), difficulty in breathing, and a sudden drop in blood pressure.

backcountry areas Remote regions inside parks and recreation districts with rugged trails and terrain, making them an adventurous place to backpack. Backcountry areas are also sometimes described as wilderness areas.
