“Are you some sort of prevert or something?” He meant “pervert,” but actor Keenan Wynn’s character (Colonel “Bat” Guano) in Stanley Kubrick’s film Dr. Strangelove made his point loud and clear. Released in early 1964, Kubrick’s blunt satire of Cold War politics and nuclear war threats was the “in” movie for enlightened liberals, academic types, and film freaks throughout the 1964 presidential election.
