Timelines of Major World Religions
Following are condensed timelines, drawn from a variety of sources, for five of the world’s major religious traditions. Many of the dates are subject to disagreement among the best scholars; we have tried to present the most generally accepted chronologies.

Hinduism

Pre-2000 B.C.E.: Harrapa culture exists in Indus Valley.
 
Circa 2000 B.C.E.: Aryans migrate into region now known as India. Interplay of cultures and religious practices takes place.
 
Circa 1500 B.C.E.: Compilation and development of the Vedas is thought to have begun at around this time.
 
Circa 800 B.C.E.: Compilation and development of the Upanishads is thought to have begun at around this time.
