abecedarian An alphabet acrostic. See alphabet acrostic.
abstraction Word that expresses an idea (pain, honesty, love) rather than an image.
accentual verse Verse that relies only on the number of accents (or stresses) in a line; it doesn’t matter where those stresses fall.
acrostic A poem in which the first letter of each line, the last letter of each line, or an arbitrarily chosen letter in the middle of the poem forms a word, phrase, or sentence.
alliteration The repetition of initial consonant sounds (brown bears beat boats).
allusion A reference to something historical, mythological, or literary in a poem ...
