Grantees

The federal government awards grants (money) each year to a wide variety of state and local governments, educational institutions, public housing organizations, non-profit organizations, and individuals. Grants are provided for a variety of purposes that benefit the public. Federal grants for individuals are limited and small businesses must typically employ at least 100 employees. The Small Business Administration (sba.gov) does have several loan programs for small businesses that are not eligible for federal grants.
There are 26 grant-making agencies in the federal government. All grant opportunities and eligibility information can be found on grants.gov, which has more than 2,000 grant listings at any given time.
