Fed Watching

Fed watching is the name given to the pastime of anticipating and understanding changes in monetary policy. Serious Fed watchers pour through the Fed chairman’s testimony before Congress and the Beige Book at the Fed’s website. Anyone with any interest in the direction of the economy will watch for changes in the targeted fed funds rate after a meeting of the FOMC. The schedule of meetings is posted at the Fed’s website, as are the press releases of the statement issued after each meeting.
