Common Problems and What to Do About Them

Certain performance problems are common, meaning that most managers have to deal with them at some point in their work lives. Let’s look a little more closely at some common problems, such as absenteeism and inability to get along with other employees. But remember that nearly every performance gap should be dealt with using these steps:
1. Identify the problem.
2. Figure out why the problem is occurring.
3. Address the problem.
4. Have the employee take ownership by coming up with a solution to the problem.
5. Follow through by recognizing efforts for improvement.
6. Keep careful coaching notes throughout the process.
