Dissecting a Meme

A meme might be an (often simple) cultural idea, but it requires several components to exist:
• The memetic engineer
• The hook
• The bait
• The vector
• The host
• The memotype
• The sociotype
Here’s a breakdown of the parts.

The Memetic Engineer

The memetic engineer is the creator of the meme itself. There are two important points to meme engineering.
First, the actual meme creation doesn’t have to be a conscious act. For instance, a hip schoolboy might wear mismatched socks on accident, but because he’s a trendsetter, others might be inspired to wear mismatched socks the next day. A meme is created.
