alternate service The process of posting court documents in prominent places as an alternative to physically presenting or serving the party with the documents.
alternative dispute resolution (ADR) Any method of solving a problem that doesn’t involve going to court. ADR is very popular as a low-cost, low-conflict alternative to traditional adversarial court proceedings. It includes negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.
