Lawyers often call small claims courts the courts of small claims and large principles. The amount of money involved is never very large, but the litigants say over and over, “It’s the principle of the thing.” These are the cases people swear they’ll take all the way to the United States Supreme Court. In reality, the United States Supreme Court isn’t likely to be interested in hearing the case; see Chapter 15 for a discussion of how you get a case to the Supreme Court.
