Advantages and Disadvantages of Going Without

The obvious advantage of going without a lawyer is financial. You won’t be spending any money on legal fees. You also won’t be at the mercy of the lawyer’s schedule for return calls, meetings, or setting court dates. You may even get some slack from the court on the format of your paperwork because you don’t have a lawyer. However, you won’t get any leeway on due dates or showing proper respect for the court.
There are two major disadvantages to going without a lawyer, and they’re summed up in this joke: Joe spent four hours trying to get the power back on in his house. He called the power company, and they swore there was nothing wrong with the grid, so he called an electrician to come right away. ...
