Even though the monetary amount is right, some cases can’t be heard in small claims courts because other courts have jurisdiction, or power, over the specific topic. Before you decide to go with small claims, check to be sure that another kind of court isn’t the more appropriate place to go.
In particular, if your case grows out of a previous lawsuit, check to be sure that you aren’t supposed to go back to the original judge and court that the lawsuit was decided in.
