Defendant’s Case

When the plaintiff has finished calling its witnesses and introducing its evidence, it’s the defendant’s turn. The defendant puts on his case exactly the same way the plaintiff did. The defendant calls witnesses and does direct examination; the plaintiff cross-examines those witnesses, and the defendant can do a redirect examination if he chooses. When he’s done bringing forth his witnesses and evidence, he, like the plaintiff, is finished and announces that he “rests his case.”
