The Importance of the Market

The About the Market section is one of the most important sections of your book proposal. Your writing might be wonderful and your concept solid, but without demonstrating a working knowledge of your audience—their likes, dislikes, and needs—as well as the competition for your book and places where it can be sold beyond the standard brick-and-mortar and online bookstores, you just won’t make the cut. Do your homework and make sure you know your audience and why they will want your book. Demonstrate a solid knowledge of the other books on your topic and how yours is different and better. And think about nontraditional sales venues for your book.
