This may seem obvious, but we want to say it anyway: if you live in Minnesota and your favorite escapist fiction is Regency romance novels, please don’t suddenly decide to write a gritty novel about the drug wars in the seamy underside of Miami just because you’ve noticed that novels about drug lords and drug traffic keep showing up on bestseller lists.
