The Role of the Facilitator

While the boss can, and sometimes should, serve in the team leader role, the boss should not serve as the facilitator of the planning process. The dictionary definition of facilitate is “to make easy or easier,” and that is exactly what the strategic planning facilitator is charged with doing. The facilitator has three broad objectives when facilitating the strategic planning process:
1. Moving the group toward the pre-identified outcome.
2. Initiating and sustaining an efficient process that encourages collaboration and interaction between all participants.
