Dealing with E-Mail Threats and Annoyances
Many of the most serious threats to your PC come in the form of e-mail or e-mail attachments. By knowing what to watch out for and what to do or not do, you can steer clear of most problems.
Avoiding Infected E-Mail Attachments
The cardinal rule for avoiding viral infections from e-mail attachments is this: never open an e-mail attachment unless you know and trust the source. Your antivirus program will scan incoming e-mail messages and attachments, providing you with some protection, but if the attachment contains a brand-new virus your antivirus program doesn’t recognize, or the sender figured out a way to hide the virus’s true identity, your antivirus program may not catch it.
