The Next Generation: Stepping Up to HTML5 and CSS3

During the writing of this book, the HTML and CSS standards were undergoing some major revisions. As you’re reading this, those standards may or may not be official. However, most web browsers recognize at least some of the new HTML elements and CSS properties, so you need to be aware of these new and improved standards and perhaps begin to use them when creating web pages.
The following sections provide brief overviews of what’s new in HTML5 and CSS3. Throughout this book, you learn more about individual elements introduced in HTML5 and properties introduced in CSS3. Just look for the HTML5 and CSS3 icons used to flag these new standards.
