Retail stores are probably most familiar with sales and promotions. Consumers are motivated sharply by the opportunity to save money, and a Twitter-specific promotion can both give a customer a reason to visit the retail store today and provide you with tracking information.
Creating Trackable Promotions
The most obvious promotion is to create a Twitter-specific coupon. It’s often hard to measure the direct value of Twitter, but this is one of the cases where it’s easy to see an immediate return.
By Tweeting coded links to purchase pages, Best Buy (@BestBuy), the national electronics retailer, can monitor referral traffic to its website and, using promo codes, drive in-store purchases.
