Using Twitter Elements Properly

A number of elements on Twitter might not seem very intuitive to a newbie. Twitter has a whole language of its own, consisting of things such as “@ replies” and hashtags. We get into more detail about how to use these to benefit your business in later chapters; right now it’s only important to identify them.

A Look Around

When you log in to your account, you see at the top of the screen the prompt, “What’s happening?” with a field below it. Here’s where you write and post your Tweets.

Immediately below that text box is your main Timeline: a stream of Tweets posted by the individuals you follow. If you don’t see anything here when you set up your account, it’s only because you haven’t started following anyone yet! ...
