34. Why exercise makes you feel on top of the world

You may hate the idea of it, but taking exercise is life-changing and has real benefits if you’re aiming to lose weight. Once you get into the exercise habit, you won’t want to stop.

I think the reason that so many of us are put off formal exercise as adults is a hangover from childhood: unless you were good at sport at school you probably detested PE.

At school there was cross country running on a cold winter’s morning, followed by a cold shower. As you get older, however, you need to give exercise another chance. There are loads of different ways of exercising and it doen’t have to involve being shouted at by an angry man in a tracksuit with a whistle (unless you want it to).
