It’s what used to be called PMA – ‘positive mental attitude’, now more commonly known as ‘optimistic thinking’.

There are some people who view the world as full of exciting opportunities or those with their glass ‘half full’. There are people who tend to anticipate the worst or those with their glass ‘half empty’. Whatever the state of your glass, psychologists have shown that there are significant differences in the way we appraise our lives, ourselves and what happens to us. And what’s more intriguing, is that our appraisals have been shown to affect our thinking, our emotions and ultimately our behaviour. Sometimes our negative thinking can actually affect our morale, esteem and mental health.
