Faculty members in institutions of higher learning have job descriptions comprised of multiple types of scholarly activity. Some institutions categorize these responsibilities into three realms: research, teaching, and service. A traditional route to meeting such responsibilities is to integrate one’s research interests and activities with the courses which one is assigned to teach. An alternative approach is to conceptualize teaching itself as a focus of scholarly inquiry, with the aim of maximizing the educational impact and maximizing the integration of learning models with counseling content.
