The Client/Composer Relationship

The music industry is just as much about personal relationships and business acumen as it is about musical skill. One of the most important talents a composer can have, for example, is the ability to make connections and maintain relationships so that they blossom into sustained business interactions. Every person that you meet in the industry has the potential to be an individual in a position to launch your career (or at least be one or two people removed from such an individual). As such, this chapter will briefly explore some practical steps you may take to develop relationships and business techniques to begin—and maintain—a career in the music business.
