Basic geometric shapes and clean, utilitarian designs; the Russian Avant-Garde was radical in its non-objectivity. Russia had been in social and economic crisis. The Russian Revolution of 1917 not only liberated the proletariat; it also inspired artists to completely deconstruct the old art of the fallen monarchy. They strove to remove all excess and find the spirit and common good in the austere. The Suprematism and Constructivism movements are the highlights of this utopian era.
