The RewriteRule directive is the main workhorse of mod_rewrite, and you’ll need to become very familiar with what it can do and how to use it in your quest to become a mod_rewrite guru.

This chapter introduces the directive with a few simple examples. Then I’ll discuss in more detail all of the available options and illustrate these with less simple—and hopefully more useful—examples. However, some of the most complex examples will have to wait until later, once you’ve been introduced to the RewriteCond directive as well as a few others.
