In devising changes to our economic system, the real issue is one of choice—of learning to see the invisible choices we don’t realize we have. The idea of unseen choice is a lesson my friend Laura taught me, and she did so quite offhandedly one evening, when I saw her confront a toddler who was refusing to go to bed.
