Chapter 19Designing Your Own Plan

We all need a plan, right? Well, who do you go to for your plan? Why not trust yourself? There are geniuses in the world for sure. Many people have great plans. Some people are paid to be strategic planners. There are mastermind groups. There are teams. There are mentors, consultants, life coaches, online gurus—you name it and they're out there. We can go to a million and one sources to get a plan made. But I believe that there is no better plan than your own. No one knows you better than you. Yes, you may need some tweaking to your plan. You could also get a little advice, but no matter what you add into your plan, you should understand it. I've heard that if you're the smartest person in your circle, then you're in the wrong circle. Well, guess what? You're always the smartest person in the circle, no matter what circle you're in. You can be in a circle with Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffett, and although those are very smart guys, you'd still be the smartest person in the circle. No one knows you better than you. Mark knows what's best for Mark, not Bill. Bill knows what's best for Bill, not Mark. Sure they can pitch ideas around and advise one another, but at the end of the day each person will have to make the decision for themselves. You'll always be the smartest in the circle; they just may be smarter in other areas. No one is smarter than you when it comes to you, and you can't ever forget that. I understand what they mean ...
