In the United States, private employers operating in employment-
at-will states have the right to fire employees for just about any reason,
including violation of social networking policies, video site rules, and
other employment policies, as long as the dismissal is not discriminatory
or in retaliation for whistle-blowing or union organizing.

To date, less than 1 percent of employers have fired workers for
posting business-related content on social networking or video sites, ac-
cording to the 2007 Electronic Monitoring & Surveillance Survey from
