Abstract

While economists have traditionally considered the returns to education quantity, in the last decade or so the focus has turned to education quality. This reflects the fact that at any level of schooling, there are significant differences across schools with respect to peer quality and other important inputs into education production. Moreover, it is clear that parents and students perceive large differences in school quality, as reflected by the efforts taken to attend more selective schools.
