Abstract

In recent decades, research has revealed the importance of teachers for student outcomes, as well as the extent to which access to high-quality teachers is inequitably distributed across students from different backgrounds. This chapter describes the methodological challenges confronting the study of teacher labor markets and the institutional features of these markets that influence that quality of teaching in public schools.
