Abstract
State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) is China’s energy monopoly. This chapter explores SGCC’s rise in China, following its rapid growth from small unit and low-voltage province distribution to a nationwide network. It also focuses on SGCC’s innovation and R&D, which has allowed the company to specialize in ultrahigh voltage (UHV) technology. SGCC is also a heavy investor and innovator in clean energy given China’s problems with pollution. The company has expanded its reach globally, with the aim to create a worldwide energy grid.
