Abstract
Although still relatively unknown outside its home country, Tencent is ranked among the five most valuable Internet companies in the world. This case study examines Tencent’s innovation in the Chinese tech market. This Internet conglomerate is a world leader in video games, messaging services, and patent submissions. Tencent’s dominance can be credited in large part to its messaging app WeChat, which offers free text, voice, and video messaging, and also allows users to post social updates, call taxis, share videos, and most importantly, make mobile payments and play games.
